Software should understand the work.

ciphers™ is an independent software and AI lab in Mumbai. We study difficult Indian workflows and build focused products around what the work actually demands.

Our thesis

India deserves software shaped by its reality, not softened around it.

Much of the software used here was either designed elsewhere or built as a thin record of work that still happens through spreadsheets, inboxes, calls, and repeated follow-ups. We believe the opportunity is deeper: understand the operating context first, then build the system it calls for.

How we choose

Fewer problems. Deeper attention.

We are not a catalogue of ideas. Each experiment begins with an unresolved operating problem and earns its way forward through research, restraint, and evidence.

01

The work is consequential

A neglected workflow should cost people time, attention, accuracy, or agency—not merely look inefficient in a slide deck.

02

The context changes the product

India is not a localisation setting. Regulation, trust, language, operating habits, and service layers shape what useful software must become.

03

Software can remove real burden

We look for systems where careful product design, dependable engineering, and selective AI can make the work materially clearer.

What we are exploring

One company-specific view of what applies, what is in progress, who owns the next step, and where the final record lives.

What we are not claiming

Startaflo is not publicly released. Its scope and delivery model may change as we learn from founders and operators.

Operating principles

  1. 01
    Context before code.

We map the work, incentives, edge cases, and human dependencies before deciding what belongs in software.

  2. 02
    Clarity is infrastructure.

People should know what applies, what changed, who owns the next step, and what evidence remains.

  3. 03
    AI earns its place.

We use AI where it can reduce interpretation or coordination burden—not as decoration or an excuse to make a system unpredictable.

  4. 04
    Trust compounds slowly.

Honest boundaries, legible decisions, and dependable behaviour matter more than inflated claims.
